Poly Loot Abilities: Unlock Level, Ability Runes & Sources

How Poly Loot abilities work: the level 30 unlock, slotting with Ability Runes, reported abilities like Berserk, Cannon, and Ground Slam, and where runes come from.

Active abilities in Poly Loot unlock at level 30 and are slotted using Ability Runes. Reported ability options include Berserk, Cannon, and Ground Slam, and runes can be obtained from quests, the daily login reward, and specific boss drops. Leave the cave quest and come back with an upgraded weapon if it's too hard.

How abilities unlock

Reaching level 30 is the gate for active abilities. Once unlocked, abilities are slotted using Ability Runes. Abilities change how boss fights play out more than any single stat point does, making them a meaningful power spike rather than a small stat bump.

The cave quest that introduces the ability system can be a sharp difficulty spike well before abilities can actually be used. There is no penalty in leaving that quest and returning after upgrading your weapon.

Where Ability Runes come from

Ability Runes are reported to come from several places around the game:

  • Completing certain quests from quest NPCs around the map
  • The daily login reward
  • Defeating the Spider
  • Defeating the Triple Head Cobra

The in-game Index's item view is the tool for tracking down a specific Ability Rune source.

The abilities quest and its difficulty

An NPC associated with the abilities system exists near the cave area, and ability acquisition is described as difficult. A nearby hard quest tied to ability runes has been described as beyond beginner-level power, so treat abilities as an intentionally gated late-early-game goal rather than a first-session task.

The abilities quest appears in the early cave quest chain: among the cave quest-givers is one that introduces abilities, while others feed into normal combat progression. A difficult boss or ability encounter does not need to stop the rest of your progress — skip it and return later.

What isn't currently documented

How abilities are activated in combat, their costs or cooldowns, upgrade rules, and a complete ability list are not currently documented. Berserk, Cannon, and Ground Slam are reported options rather than an exhaustive list, and rune sources are player-reported rather than verified drop tables. Since Poly Loot is actively updated, recheck ability names, unlock levels, and rune sources in-game after ability-related updates.
